Venue & Date: Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre (STIC), Kochi, 18th July to 20 July 2013

Objectives:

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has become one of the powerful analytic tools in chemistry and biology. With the development of powerful superconducting magnets, fast Fourier transform technique and computerization, NMR is now routinely used by chemists as well as biologist to unravel the structures of molecules and compounds. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass spectrometry (MS) is another important analytical tool in biology and chemical research. The recent developments in MS help one to visualise the structures of even polymers and biopolymers in high resolution. MS coupled with chromatography is now an indispensable part of proteomics, metabolomics and genomics studies and is used in the analysis of extremely complex mixtures. This workshop focuses on the theory, instrumentation and applications of NMR and MS, starting from fundamentals to advanced levels and provides valuable experience to the participants.

Experts in the respective fields will lead the lectures, and laboratory exposure along with hands-on session with the instruments available will be an added advantage. The program is intended for young faculty members of colleges/ university departments and research scholars in chemistry/biology who use/propose to use NMR and/or MS in their research. The number of participants is limited to 30, on a first come-first-served basis.
